Ford Truck, Diesel, and Engine Repair

Experience With Triton V8 Engines, Power Stroke Diesels, and Ford Truck Repairs.

Trucks earn their keep in Clarksville, towing trailers and running job sites, and a Ford that works for a living wears differently than one that just commutes. That’s the lens we bring to them: an F-150 or a Super Duty diesel that’s down is often a workday lost, so the priority is a straight diagnosis and getting it back on the road, not a string of guesses.

Fords also carry a few well-known trouble spots that reward knowing them ahead of time. The spark plugs on the 5.4 Triton are notorious for seizing in the head, the cam phasers rattle on cold start, and the internal water pump on some V6s can fail in a way that gets expensive if missed. None of these are mysteries once you’ve done a few, and that experience is what keeps the repair honest.

Ford Problems We Diagnose and Repair

Engine, Transmission, and Diesel Concerns Across Ford Trucks, SUVs, and Cars.

Issue
Spark plugs seizing or breaking in the 5.4 Triton
Models
F-150, Expedition, and Super Duty with the 5.4L 3-valve V8 (roughly 2004-2008)
These two-piece plugs are known to seize in the cylinder head and can break off during removal, which turns a routine tune-up into a careful extraction job. The earlier 2-valve version had the opposite problem and could spit a plug out of the head entirely. Either way it's a job worth doing right.
Issue
Cam phaser rattle on cold start
Models
5.4L 3-valve V8, and later 5.0L and 3.5L EcoBoost engines
A rattle for a few seconds after a cold start usually comes from the variable cam timing phasers wearing. It's a known pattern on these engines, and left long enough it affects timing and can lead to bigger repairs, so it's worth diagnosing rather than living with.
Issue
Internal water pump failure on the V6
Models
Explorer, Edge, Flex, and Taurus with the 3.5L or 3.7L V6
On these the water pump is driven by the timing chain inside the engine, so when it fails it can leak coolant straight into the oil rather than onto the ground. That makes it both hard to spot early and expensive if missed, so any coolant loss on these deserves a look sooner rather than later.
Issue
PowerShift dual-clutch shudder
Models
Fiesta (2011-2016) and Focus (2012-2016) with the automatic
The dry dual-clutch automatic in these is known for shuddering, hesitating, and jerking, and it was the subject of a large settlement. On these cars, shifting complaints usually trace back to this transmission rather than something the driver is doing.
